Upgrading from FX 8350 to i5 6600k, worth it?

You're not wrong, a CPU does generally become much more important at very high framerates.

 

But there's more to it than just ultra-high average framerates. Minimum framerates, as well as frame time latency, also benefit greatly from a fast CPU in many new games. And those often have a more dramatic impact on your experience than averages do.

60 FPS means each frame is being delivered in 16.7 milliseconds. But in real gameplay, it often fluctuates millisecond-by-millisecond. If you're using a CPU that isn't fast enough, that's one of the best ways to see the difference. In that case there are spikes, possibly big enough to feel a "hitch" in the animation.

Never had one except for in DayZ, Grey Goo & GTA V before I managed to set up the right settings because GFE is a failure...

So if I was going for an X99 in a Mini-Itx build (Node 202 as mentioned previously) what would you recommend CPU and MOBO wise? I'm very ignorant when it comes to Intel CPUs so wouldn't really know where to start looking.

Well that highly depends on the video editing software you use.

If you use software that can take the advantage of AVX2.0 instruction like Adobe premiere does, then the i5 whipes the floor with a FX8 core for your render.

And yeah as far as gaming is concerned, i dont think that it would make any sense to beat a dead horse.

 

In my opinnion an i5 would be a nice upgrade, especialy for a mini itx rig.

Or you could go just full bonkers with a mini itx 6700K.
