Budget Gaming Rig (700$)

owenhar1

I am planning on building a budget gaming rig that fits my needs. I want it to be able to run games such as GTA V, Ark Survival, and Subnautica. My budget is 700 dollars including a monitor and keyboard/mouse. I live in the USA and I am not interested in trying to buy used parts for this build. Here is my plan so far:

its a good psu for $55, better caps than the old CX, no 30 degree capacitator issue, 5 year warranty, perfectly fine. its similar in quality to a seasonic s12ii.

That CX is fine, it's a grey unit. Just a tiny bit under the S12ll. It's the old CX you have to look out for.

go with a 1tb hdd, maybe get a slightly cheaper(but still good quality psu), dump the optical drive(unless you absolutely need it), the fans(add these if temps are too high) and use the money for an i5 and Rx 480.

I'm gonna do research on the Rx 480 but i will dump the optical drive and the 1tb hhd is about 6$ cheaper so that won't make much of a difference and i might upgrade to a i5 but depends on my budget.

This is going to be my friends new pc. http://pcpartpicker.com/list/KjDnQV  It's under 600 leaving plenty for a kb/mouse/monitor. At this point I'd reccomend at least a quad core cpu instead of the i3.

I kind of see your point but most games don't use extra cores. And a 120gb ssd is a small amount of storage as all of my games add up to about 400gb

For now they might not but a quad core will serve you into the future much better than the i3.

Plan of Attack

Build the PC without the GPU and save up for the RX 480 release ($250?).  Sort out your OS any way you want.  You do not need an optical bay to install Windows.

Upgrades in order of priority:

1.  A GPU.  Save up until the 29th of June and decide what you want to buy.

2.  Mass storage, a second stick of RAM, A CPU cooler to quiet things down ($20, Deepcool Gammax 300?)

3.  A new case with better airflow, not really needed but is desired by most.

Plan of Attack

Build the PC without the GPU and save up for the RX 480 release ($250?).  Sort out your OS any way you want.  You do not need an optical bay to install Windows.

$585

Good idea but has problems, because i really need a mass storage HDD because i have a steam library of over 50 games and want to have them all on with no problems. And i would rather go for a Nividia GPU.

don't be an nvidia fanboy, the Rx 480 will be the best graphics card for you(and alot of us) once its released, with performance of around the gtx 980.
