You'd be better off selling your current 980 and, with the money of a second one + some extra, getting a 1080. Or, you could save a bit overall and get a 1070.

1080 is the equivalent of two 980s for less money. Plus you won't have to deal with SLI issues. But really, you could just get a 1070 and get the equivalent of a Titan X (or do 1070 in SLI, they're cheaper than 980 and more powerful).

I wouldn't mess with sli atm, not too many games support multi gpus anymore.

I wouldn't.

Sell what you have, put the money aside, add the money you would pay for the second 980 and get a 1080 .

Not a lot of games are optimised to use two GPUs, getting two GPUs to work together (SLI) CAN be a problem

Actually some tests revealed that a 1080 is slower than 2 980 sli

Seems like everyone forgot about the most important question...what's the price of the 980 you're gonna buy? It's all about dem price to performance man :)

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

OC 980 SLI was faster, but also depends on the game for how optimized it is on SLI. Just really depends, but definitely not a couple hundred dollars more imo.
