Best air cooler for skylake

Marius5013

Hi everyone im building a new computer and i need the best air cooler i can get for my Intel Core i7-6700K Skylake ive heard that the Noctua NH-D15 is good but what about the Noctua NH-D15S any difference?

The NH-D15S is offset to make room on the motherboard and only has one fan instead of two. Meaning that the NH-D15 is going to edge it out in most scenarios.

NH-D15s performs exactly the same as the NH-D15. The only difference is that the NH-D15s has fixed compatibility with the first PCI-e slot on the motherboard because on some motherboard you cant install anything into the first PCI-e slot as the NH-D15 is so wide that it blocks it.

Other good options are Cryorig R1 Ultimate or Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3.

It's an excellent cooler. It's not quite NH-D15 levels but the difference is too small to really matter.

If you want a true silent build, get the nh-d15 and then get 3 of the exact same fans for inflow and outflow.

What you do next is buy a 6 way splitter for the fans and controll them all with the cpu fan header.

Wala, now you can run your fans at 300rpm when idling and ramp it up a tiny bit with a fan curve of your choosing.

Yes it will fit easily in the r5, i use one with th nh-d15 so don't worry.

the only thing you might need to watch out for is getting a good gpu that doesn't make noise. Either get a msi twin frozer or if you are more couragoues, mod any gpu with a mk-26 or arctic accelero.

Oh also get a psu that turns its fan off when under light load.
