Copying Steam ganes to another PC

I'm thinking of buying CS:GO and copying it from my laptop to our desktop PC. After doing that, can I sign in to my brother's Steam account on the PC and play CS:GO through there?

you can sign on to the steam that owns cs:go while on the desktop and play it that way.  You can either manually copy it or just re-download it

No, I mean, can I copy the CS:GO from my laptop to the PC with a DIFFERENT Steam account and play the game using the different Steam account?

I'm pretty sure that you have to use the same steam account on the desktop because that's the account that owns the game.

No you can't. If you are just looking to save your settings you can just copy them into a notepad and paste them on the other machine. You can't just copy and paste game files back and forth. Also what is the point all your stuff is saved in the cloud?

Hmmm, I actually think that you can if you change some sort of setting between friends.  Family library sharing I believe its called?  I saw some of my games in my gf's steam and clicked play to see if they'd play and it said I'd have to sign into my steam on her pc to enable Family Library Sharing.  I'll try messing with it later since I'm in the middle of a game of Doom and don't wanna sign out of steam atm

edit: I dont think it'll let both accounts play the same game at the same time though

I don't know if there are any files tied specifically to the steam account, but all the maps/materials you can for sure copy (this is the majority of the files if you are just trying to save time from redownloading the whole game on the new PC) Place them in the correct directory (steam/steamapps/common/Counter-Strike Global Offensive), and then try to install the game on the other PC. It should recognize the files and verify them as long as your folder structure is correct.

 

You need a steam account that owns CSGO to launch it, obviously. But I'm pretty sure you can copy all the files without and problems.

You ~CAN~ just copy-paste the whole Steam install folder between machines as Windows/Linux/OSX doesn't give a damn which Steam account has authorization to which particular game files.

 

I regularly backup my Steam install folder with upwards of 600GB of games to an external drive then dump that onto other systems I've built and got around the house even if I use my secondary Steam account on those systems instead of my main Steam account, Steam just hides access to the game files the secondary account doesn't "own" and doesn't have shared via Family Sharing from the main account.

The following instructions are a simple way to move your Steam installation along with your games:
1.Exit the Steam client application.
2.Browse to the Steam installation folder for the Steam installation you would like to move (C:\Program Files\Steam by default).
3.Delete all of the files and folders except the SteamApps folder and Steam.exe
4.Cut and paste the whole Steam folder to the new location, for example: D:\Games\Steam\
5.Launch Steam and log into your account.

 

Steam will briefly update and then you will be logged into your account. For installed games, verify your game cache files and you will be ready to play.
