I wonder if it has custom bios. GALAX said the bios is what's limiting OC's, not power delivery or thermals.

I bet this is the custom BIOS boost clock. You'll be able to do that on a stock 1080 with good cooling :) No need to overpay for such card.

I hope so, MSI Aero + EK Waterblock for the price of the founders edition. :o

Exactly. Why overpay?!

I'll admit I've been dying to get a 1080, almost to the point where I'd be willing to pay for the founders edition, but I'm overcoming adversity!  It wouldn't be so bad if I hadn't sold my 970's two days before the release.

I know that feeling. Sold my 980ti evga for £350. Rip.

I got $650 for my two 970's with waterblocks. A little bit of a loss, but worth it to go towards the new king.

Well @done12many2 have 2 of those cards with EKWB water block on it, and he get around 2088MHz.

With his build I think cooling isn't problem, so I guess cards can't handle overclock over 2100MHz.

The cards hold just over 2100 MHz (2136 I think) all day long without dropping.  Memory does well at 11,800 MHz +.  Cards average 37-39c under full load so it's definitely not a cooling issue.

@Simon771 I went back to the 5960x.  The 6950x max overclock was still short of the 5960x in everything involving 8 cores or less when  comparing max overclocks.

You tried to go over that 2136 OC?

How much did you increase voltage?

About 6950X ... well It's hard to beat chey picker 5960X :P

And for that 10-20% better performance in apps that can acctually use all those cores ... well 1700$ isn't worth that 10-20% performance bump in 1% programs if you ask me.

As it goes for me ... well I'm only playing games, so I don't even need more than 4 cores. Wouldn't mind K chip, but that might come in future.

Sold my R9 390, so I'm on Intel HD till GTX 1070 EVGA SC comes out in EU lol

If you weren't a whole half a world away, I'd swap my 4790k for your 4790.  I'm not even using it so I'm going to sell that build off.  Aren't EK blocks made near you?

Woow you realy are friendly mate :) But yeah I'm too far away sadly.

Yeah EKWB is like 20km away from me. I was also there 2 times in person. Great company :)

What are the results of such a OC?

Are we seeing good benefits from running the card at higher frequencies?

I thought I saw somewhere that said the higher clock is not transferring into real performance on the same level as, say a 980ti was?

Yeah I heard that too ... they call it bad scaling or something.

Not sure how true it is.
