So I have a choice between two routers of equal price and they are my only options as they have a VDSL modem built in.

VDSL modem/router combos don't work with firmware like DD-WRT so the software experience is quite important.

Any ideas between the two?

I don't like 2D games...I just couldn't get into them.. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Both the specs look the same, only difference really is netgear seems to be more popular. Both are pretty good though.

The netgear has an extra port for non-DSL WAN but beyond that they look pretty much the same in terms of specs. I personally don't like the Netgear software but that's just me.

What would the extra port be used for?

So if you have 4 devices that you want to connect wired to the router the Netgear will allow you to do that out of the box compared to the TP-Link which would require a switch. Of course this is all if you're using cable/fiber and not DSL and if you're using DSL then it doesn't matter since both will offer for LAN ports.
