Overclockable Xeons??!!

If I OC the Xeon, will it be good for gaming or nah...?

It'll be alright, maybe be behind by around 2-5 FPS (basically not much at all although an E5-1650 v2 or v3 (X79 and X99 respectively) would be nicer due to the improved IPC over the generations)

After some research, I found this video...

He was able to get the Xeon to 4GHz+ with the multiplier...

Now my question: is it worth buying a used Xeon E5-1650 and getting it to around 4GHz or just buy a Haswell 4790K or 4690K?

Which will be the best for gaming and video editing?

CPU: Intel Core i7-5820K | Motherboard: AsRock X99 Extreme4 | Graphics Card: Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 Gaming | RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ripjaws4 2133MHz | Storage: 1 x Samsung 860 EVO 1TB | 1 x WD Green 2TB | 1 x WD Blue 500GB | PSU: Corsair RM750x | Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro (White) | Cooling: Arctic Freezer i32

Mice: Logitech G Pro X Superlight (main), Logitech G Pro Wireless, Razer Viper Ultimate, Zowie S1 Divina Blue, Zowie FK1-B Divina Blue, Logitech G Pro (3366 sensor), Glorious Model O, Razer Viper Mini, Logitech G305, Logitech G502, Logitech G402

Video editing? The Xeon. It has 6 cores and 12 threads.

Gaming? The 4790k because the 8 threads are starting to help and you can overclock it.

I was thinking about that, bit if I am going to spend $500-600 I'd rather get a 5820K...this solution is just cheaper...

Yes, if you can get it a high enough speed on it the chip, but x79 motherboards are expensive ($250) and the chip may be another hundred or so.

But multicore games like BF4... Will they benefit from 6C/12T?

That's my point... It costs as much as a 4790K system

In most games they don't use over 4-8 threads on AAA tittles, which is why the 5820k is more geared towards workstations.

The answer is in what you said.

So I guess all Triple A titles should as they do leverage Multiple threads

Well, some. You might see increased performance though :P

Another thing, it is impossible for the Xeons to have worse performance in games like my FX-6100... Right?

The xeon, or really any more modern intel cpu will be a lot better then the fx 6100 especially in gaming.

I just thought that maybe a 6core would be better for more multitasking...

Not enough to compete with several generations of IPC gains.
