These PSU stuff is killing me.

I have a power supply with 500w on the name but when I look at the rails (those section with the V12 stuff), it says 360w.

However, my graphics card recommends 500w. So should I upgrade my PSU?! I am still planning to upgrade my Processor that recommends 100w.....

Notes: The PSU becomes really hot if I game for too long...

Sometimes there's two sections. one will total up the +12V, +5V, +3.3V, -12V, -5V rail and it'll say 360W but then somewhere else on the sticker it'll say: "Maximum voltage not to exceed: 500W" Look around the sticker more see if it says that anywhere.

Solid unit above.. if you can stretch though (big if I know) and I know it's not needed but at the price it's great value and will last pretty much anything you could throw at it. including older top tier cards and many as cf

So should I be looking at the # of watts in the name?

(Awesome Master 500w)

or should I look at the 12V rails watts?

so is my power supply giving enough power to my GPU?!

is the high heat of my PSU Caused by the lack/too much Watts given to my system? Or just crappy design?

(sorry for my scrubful questions)

You should be if the PSU is decent but that Cooler Master isn't great.

The 12V rail voltage *12 is the maximum output of the PSU, so yes, not a bad idea.

It is but that PSU is pretty crappy and you can do better.

High heat could be a bad fan, complete inefficiency, or lots of stress.

TL;DR, a Corsair CX450M would be a much better PSU to replace your old one with.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

It would, although the 600W version of that PSU is much better if you can afford it even though the extra wattage isn't necessary.

That build should draw at max load about 150 W (gaming even less), but again that's a Cheap PSU and if it gets THAT hot for such system I'd replace it, just don't cheap out.

This one is more than enough, good OEM, rated for 50 ºC, 5 year warranty and affordable
