GTX 560 ti SLI or "The Mod"

nickbu1

I currently have one MSI 560ti and have had this for a while now, a boost in performance would be nice for some current games and upcoming games to make it last a bit longer.

So I either have the option to buy another 560ti and go with SLI or get an Antec 620 and do the mod to my current one, hoping then to be able to overclock slightly more.

Both will cost approximately the same amount and I would assume that the SLI option would result in more performance.

Do you have any opinions on which option I should go for?

Thanks

Neither. 1GB of VRAM will choke the cards if you try to SLI, you won't notice a difference. Sell the card, and put a little more money into a 7950.

I'm I missing something here?

SLI or a new cpu cooler? and which would give more performance...

i've got to be reading this wrong o_o

But anyway its not worth to SLI 1GB cards.

oh lol o_o

What is this "mod" though? you can OC a 560ti without doing anything too it o_o

Or is the "mod" just overclocking lol

If so, just OC the 560ti....or sell it and get a better card lol

Looks like this.

Problem with this mod is that the VRM's don't get cooling, so they'll burn out in time.

if you can get another 560ti for cheap (less than $100) i say SLI.

but you can always try selling it. (best option)

no need for a new case ESPECIALLY if its for cooling just a GPU.

The 620 mod! kewl. Do it if you want to, or just put the money into a new card. A new card would give much more performance.

You can get those brackets with a fan mount for the power deliveries. Talk to Dwood on OCN.

I would put small heatsinks on the VRM's and have fans pointed towards the card to keep it cool.

Do you have SLI?

Well...never seen that before lol o_o

Yea, something different that I thought would be interesting to try :)

That would not really be in the same price range.

Why would that choke it?

Yea it would be around that price.

Wouldn't be a new case, its a CPU AIO that I would attach to the GPU for better cooling

@nickbu1 Yup i got sli!

Ah nice

Do you know what the performance increase is like from single to SLI? I have seem multiple reviews, some say its a lot others say its not much.

Would you say its about the same as a 580?

I dont know what it would be compared to a 580 Or the single preformance, I got them both at the same time and have been running them in SLI, let me disable SLI and see my preformance in BF3 Ultra Maxed out,

EDIT: I have mine OverClocked to 1000mhz GPU and 2290Mhz Ram

EDIT:EDIT: Im also at 1600x900 :P

Dwood is not taking orders at this time.  cmod labs (sigma cool) is active and selling on OCN, about the same price. (20c idle 60c load)

My first card with "The Mod" was a zotac 560ti and had no cooling to the vrm,  no noticeable problems, artifacts, crashes

Second card was a Asus 580 Matrix Platinum, kept the stock fans for additional cooling of PCB (21c idle 60c loads)

Most recent card Asus Titan (currently 21c idle and 56c loads)

OCN Titan complete sample by cravinmild, on Flickr

All cards modded with the same Corsair H70 AIO cpu cooler. Three cards over almost 3 years with the same cooler-cheapest water cooling ever. You must remember to cool the vrm and such with some type of air movement. More important with higher end cards which will be overclocked.

Have seen your work on OCN :)

Looked at the Sigma_Cool but thought I may as well just use cable ties as much cheaper ($4 as opposed to $14 + $14 for UK delivery)

Very tempted to go with SLI instead though

Also what temperatures do you get?

And could you list the rest of your settings in MSI Afterburner. I tried overclocking to some profiles that I have seen others run at but my drivers crash after not long of Kombustor (I think due to heat)
