So I'm starting a new build in a couple of months and I'm getting a 120GB SSD for the OS (first proper PC build).

Thing is, I have my current HDD of 1TB divided in two, half for the OS and programs and the other half for games and such.

Is there any way to remove JUST the OS part so I keep all my games installed and then re-install the OS in the SSD or do I have to format it completely?

you can backup the steam folder with all the games somewhere. then delete the rest and reinstall. if you look at the steam options it is very easy to import the data after that but you can put it where it was before and then install steam if you want to be sure.

you will need to reinstall the other programms though.

So I could just copy the steam folder, re-install steam and replace the steamapps folder and that would be it? I don't care much about the other programs because they won't take long to install. The games I care about because they'd take ages to re-download and install.

Shrink your system partition to 100GB(Becouse you know, Windows counts a GB  1024 not 1000 as it needs to be) then use a harddrive cloning software to clone the OS partition to the SSD, then when you boot up in the OS (The OS on the SSD) delete the old OS partition , and expand the game/ other partition.

you cant do that because you would need to shrink the partition first.

also a new install of windows is a good idea from time to time.

I'd have to look at some tutorial to do that, sounds good nonetheless
