How can I get realtine playback in Premiere Pro?

Hi Guys.

I really need to have realtime playback in Adobe Premiere Pro in my laptop so that i don't have to export videos everytime I want to see them, especially when I have to show it to clients. Usually, many frames are dropped so the video lags awfully and it's annoying.

Do you guys have any solution to this?

Do I need to change my hard drive to an SSD?

Is the CPU/GPU not powerful enough to handle Premiere?

Laptop Specs: ASUS X550JX-xx031d

  • Intel Core i7-4720HQ
  • 12GB (4GB Soldered and 8GB Corsair) DDR3L-1600
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M 2GB DDR3
  • And a Toshiba 1TB hard drive (this might be the problem)
  • Windows 10 64bit

Thanks in advance.

NEED X58 BOARD WITH SATA3 ASAP

an SSD would help but really you are restricted by your PC

make sure CUDA and GPU acceleration is enabled

I've tried using CUDA. It doesn't lag as much as it used to. However, can an SSD make a difference? The disk usage is somewhat high during editing. Also, I use After Effects project files on Premiere Pro, so does this cause more lag?

yeah using after effects stuff in premier normally goes super slow on my system

but yeah an SSD could help a bit

yes, get a 250gb SSD and it should speed it up :)

I'm considering a 500GB SSD (250GB for me isn't enough to store programs, documents, games and video project files). However, in Premiere Pro and After Effects, what should I consider in an SSD? IOPS, 4K Random Read/Write, or Sequential Read/Write speeds?

All of them really,  depends on your budget, sometihng like a samsung 850 would be great but a cruxial bx100 etc would be good

I'm considering a Corsair Force LE or Samsung 850 EVO or an Intel 540s (expensive but I love Intel's warranty, they replaced my 320 Series SSD when it died after 4 years. Amzing) or a Team L3 EVO (cheaper that doesn't perform that bad). Not sure if my local store sells Crucial, Toshiba, OCZ, Patriot or other brands.

Consider a 500GB Samsung 850 Evo/Pro. You should consider all of them, but it won't really matter as the Samsung SSD has pretty decent speeds.

Any thoughts about the Team L3 EVO, Intel 540s? Other SSD recommendations?
