So i have 2 7850s  a 2gb and a 1gb and i have them in crossfire. When I play certain games they flash really bad. Some games freeze while im adjusting the setting such as Diablo 3 when i change it from fullscreen to windowed it freezes the game but when i switch it back it doesn't. It doesn't just freeze the game it like freezes my computer to where i cant even CTRL+ALT+DEL and get the task manager resulting in me having to restart my whole computer. Rocket League sometimes does it when launching and Warface does it whenever I try to adjust the brightness.  My drivers are all updated. Any help would be much appreciated even if it doesn't completely fix the problem.

What driver version are you using? Try a different one. Also if my memory serves Cards in CFX sometimes have issues when the cards aren't the same. Running a 1GB card with a 2GB card could be causing issues for the 1GB if the 2GB card is loading more than 1GB of data. It'd be like telling two people a set of instructions at the same time but one of the two people can't memorize as much as the other and then everything just falls apart.

Do you know what the specs of each card? Its best to buy the same model cards.

I don't know the individual specs no i just know 1 is a 1 gb and one is a 2 gb. I got the cards for free. would it be worth the money to sell the 1gb and get a 2 gb?

im not sure what version it is i used the auto detect and it downloaded automatically. and makes sense should i sell the 1gb and pick up a second 2 gb or would it not be worth the money for the performance i dont know how much 7850s go for i got them for free.

Maybe if its a VRAM issue due to the 1st GB maxxing out, try putting the 2GB card closest to the CPU, as that would be the main and the 1GB would be the paired.

the 2gb one is closest to the CPU currently.

Well than, what are the brand names of each card?

did you try running each card in the machine separately to make sure they both even work?

are the pci-e slots the same.  ( both 2.0 or both 3.0 )........ this I have had troubles with.

what are you using for a power supply?

1gig/2gig/slot.......... none of that matters. the cards have 3gigs of ram together but will only have 1gig to actually use in total.

I have an asus Maximus VI GENE i'm not sure if the slots are the same but i do know that both cards work because i did run the computer separately.

and the power supply is...........................?????????

they're both 3.0 at 8x.

edit.......... what are you cooling the system with?

and what cpu cooler do you have?

and when is the last time you cleaned the heatsinks ( on the cpu too ) and fans?

and i honestly don't know what that means i dont know like the terms i just built it. This is the first time I've messed with crossfire/SLI

Im not sure what im using i believe that im just using the intel cooler that came with it. and i built the computer about 6 months ago and havent done anything with the heatsinks since then. I just cleaned all the fans when i put the cards in like 2 or 3 weeks ago.

what kind of airflow do you have in the case?

and did you try running with the side off the case?

the cards were used. maybe you should pull the heatsink off of both of them, clean up and reapply thermal paste and put them beck together.

the reason I ask about airflow...... 1 card is hot enough, 2 will be much worse. and the top card will be sucking hot air coming off the bottom card.

then you need to think about the increased workload on the cpu trying to utilize 2 pci-e lanes vs just 1. heat-heat-heat!

yea i understand and the case i have i forget how many exactly but its like 5-8 case fans or something like that. and i dont know how to take the heatsink off the video cards. Is that difficult and should i switch to a watercooled system at least for the cpu?

i don't want to see you ruin the cards if they mean that much to you.

it's not hard to do. just keep track of the screws and where they go. and be careful of the little wire that runs the fan.

you tube has plenty of beginner vids.

water cooling ( like an all in one )? they're okay........... but if you use one of those there will be less air circulating in the cpu area. I'm trying to get somewhere that won't include spending money. if you have to spend money I would buy a better single card.

what card were you using prior to getting the 2 7850"s? and how did the system run then?

try and older driver for the 7850's

quick question... you uninstalled the nvidia drivers, rebooted and then installed the amd drivers?

and you are using a crossfire bridge?

i believe i uninstalled the old nvidia drivers how can i check to make sure and yes i am using a crossfire bridge. if the nvidia ones arent unistalled should i uninstall all of the drivers? reboot and then reinstall the amd drivers?
