Hi,

a lightning destroyed the pc of my parents - all what is left functional is luckely the SSD with the system/settings/data.

Now they want to buy a laptop instead.

They have no backup of the data and the system-settings of the destroyed pc.

How can i migrate all the data/settings and programms of the ssd from the destroyed PC to the new one with the least amount of effort and time?

1) Should i just clone the SSD to the new one in the laptop?

2) Should i try to mount the SSD from the destroyed PC in another system and to make a system-backup (does windows also save all the programms like ms-office in this backup?) - is it possible to load a system-backup made by Win7 in Win8 or Win10?

3) Should i just mount the "old" SSD in the new laptop and then load the drivers for the new system?

Any recommendations?

I would suggest either mounting the SSD (which I would say is the best option, if possible) or cloning it. Then, of course, you'd more than likely have to deal with some activation, change a few drivers around... other that, it should be fine.

connect the SSD to the laptop and just drag your files over to the new SSD

then format the old SSD and use it as extra storage

dont clone anything, just copy paste documents and pictures and that kind of files

well you should

if you want your OS to work properly

a clean install is the proper way of doing things

cloning is the lazy way
