Hey guys, I'm kinda new at this and was building a PC, having already an FX-8320, i was just missing a good PSU and a decent GPU were i could play games on medium/high for the next 3 to 4 years, i was looking into the r9 380X for 215€ € or a used HD 7970 for 160€ and an 80+Bronze 500W PSU for 37€, i'm not sure what would be the best course of action, since I really have no idea on whats the best deal, since I dont really know if any of those would last the amount of time I wanted. So i would really apreciate any help, thanks in advance!

Don't skimp out on the PSU, maybe look into a 600w higher quality PSU. AMD will release polaris 480/480x soon so if you can wait I would advice you to do that.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

but might be worth waiting for the polaris GPUs to come out very very soon

Well I wans't thinking on skimping out, i just tough it was good since it was 80+ rated, and 500W was enough for my setup, considering I wouldn't be OC'ing much if at all, my only problem with the waiting for polaris is that my PC doesn't really run anything except for League of Legends, (badly :P). And since I'm in college and almost on summer break I can't really wait more than a month otherwise most of my break would end and once I start classes again there wont be much time for games (unfortunally).

Just because something has a high rating it does not mean that it isn't a bad PSU.

Well that's kinda true, so do you think an EVGA W1 500W 80+ would be good enough? Since its from a trusted worldwide brand and its not very expensive at arround 50€.

The only PSU line I trust from EVGA is the G2. @Prysin he should be able to help you a bit more, since I only really know the good high end ones.

@Kakakarrotkake

I would suggest a Corsair RMx 650w, a Seasonic S12II 620w or EVGA G2 650w PSU. These are rated for operating temps of around 50c (so even if its HOT HOT HOT during summer, the PC shouldnt die).

There are two important factors to look for in PSUs. Reputable branding (failure rate and or warranty. EVGA has excellent warranty and low failure rate) and RATED OPERATING TEMPERATURE.

Remember that a case is hotter then the surrounding air, this heats up the PSU quite a bit. Corsairs CX series are notorious for breaking down due to ambient temperatures.

While I would normally recommend buying used hardware for the performance/dollar you aren't getting a very good deal for that 7970. I paid $140 AUD/90 euros for my 280x which is brand new and just replaced under warranty and in scrapyard wars, if i recall correctly, Linus got one for $100 CAD.

Yhea, I understand, a PSU is really important cause if it fries it could take the rest of the PC with it, however, atm, i would also like GPU advice, since the PSU also0 depends on the kind of PC I have, so if you could also advise me on that it would be great, thanks :D

650w should be enough for even the top end Vega/Pascal titan GPUs coming this year.

As time progresses, hardware will be more and more power efficient. So a 650w will be more then enough. Just get a good quality one.

Of those two cards, I'd go for the used HD7970 since that and the R9 380X are very similar in performance, but you can get it for less. But, you might consider that the HD7970 might not support DX12, which would impact future gaming.

If you were to get either of those GPUs I would suggest you get a slightly more powerful PSU - 650watts should be good.

If, on the other hand, you were to wait for the new AMD cards, they most likely will require less power and 500watts may be enough. (Or, you could go *gasp* for a nVidia card such as the GTX-1070 which should work fine with a 500 watt supply.)

As far as PSU ratings go, any 80+ bronze certified power supply is good under normal circumstances. The gold and platinum units mostly just have a higher efficiency rating and slightly tighter specs for use in servers and heavy overclocking. The power savings would basically never recoup the extra cost within the life of the average home computer.

A sieve may not hold water, but it will hold another sieve.

Yhea, actually what i tought about when i heard the 1070 was comiing out was that the 970 would come down to the 250 range, cause mi though taht would be the best card if i wanted to future prove a bit.

From what I've recently seen, you may want to wait for the new AMD RX 480 to come out later this month, before making any final decision.

the 7xxx series card support DX12, that's been known for more than a year now.

@Kakakarrotkake that 7970 is WAY too expensive, I can get one locally for $125-150 CAD, that's max 100€
