try a clean install.  the updates often do not work, especially if there is something messed up already.

do a clean install

the windows update process is a broken potato

even if it does work you will likely have all kinds of issues in the future

so no, never do an upgrade, always clean install

its not hard

Back up your data thats needed, look for saves in program files and the appdata files or if you can just back up the whole thing.

Then download the win10 iso from getintopc.com or buy a copy. Next,

use a free tool called rufus to turn the iso into a bootable media with a thumb drive or cd. Pop it in, boot, and follow the arrows. After the install and installing your programs, replace the data accordingly.

You may be able to store the back up data on a second partition of your hard drive but its safer to do so on a separate disk or cloud.
