You know when you take open your computer and once you've finished you have to crawl around underneath your desk to re-plug all of your cables (even that HDMI which barely reaches) and its a nightmare. My vision will fix all of your woes. Rather than plug your cables into your computer, you plug the computer into the cables. There is a plank of wood with all of the cables correctly positioned & secured and you just push your computer into it.

I have my tower on a bar-top that's above and next to my desk. I can stand up at my desk and plug everything in from there. It's saved by back probably thousands of cuts and scratches.

Your idea is pretty cool; especially for an open air test bench (if you don't change the mobo a lot). I think instead of wood, a modular, 'cheeseplate'-like slab would be more useful. How you would go about securing the cables, I'm not sure, but I bet someone with some 3D modeling skills could come up with something..

Then you just add it into the plank.

I am currently trying to source a suitable plank and will update all when it is complete ;)
