I have a z170 gigabyte gaming 7. While I appreciate that it has 2 m.2 slots, Thunderbolt 3 and a good price, the software control really sucks for overclocking.

Firstly, even if you have your overclocking settings when you restart your computer it returns to default mode. People have been complaining about this andi ensured to have the latest BIOS version and software updates.

Overall it just seems like Asus make much more reliable boards when it comes to overclocking and have better software control.

Thoughts?

Are you using gigabyte tweak launcher? Because it isnt meant to hold settings, it is a quick piece of software for poeple on LN2.

The Gigabyte software control thing ya...it is meant to hold settings. There is even a feature that you check to retain settings after reboot.

It sounds like you need EasyTune.

That is GigabyteTweakLauncher

This is easytune, which is much better for the average user with its XTU Style menus.

All the motherboard manufactures are at a good level by now -- otherwise they would have been long out of business.

That said, having worked with Z77, H81, H87, Z87, and Z97 motherboards from a mix of both Gigabyte and ASUS, ASUS seems to have the more refined UEFI (BIOS) compared to Gigabyte.

Correct. I have easytune...except it doesn't retain overclock settings when you restart the computer. Sucks.
