Hey guys!

So something was bothering me for a long time... I got a Optimus laptop "Samsung Ativ Book 4" and it has 2 video cards: Intel HD Graphics 4000 and Nvidia GeForce 710M.

My Intel card is integrated in my CPU which is Intel Core-I5 3230M and this video card is running my laptop and my display... So I was wondering if there is any possible way to disable the Intel card and use my Nvidia card for everything... Including my display. I can run most of the games with my Nvidia card, but for example some games that I want to try from the Windows 10 Store will run on my Intel card which will decrease my performance. Hoping to hear the best out of you guys. Thanks!

the 710M should be enabled and doing everything from factory, would be strange if it didnt

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Spoiler

Yeah i agree with that... I tried by removing my intel from the device manager and deinstalling all of its updates to see if its going to switch to Nvidia but it switched to some kind of a 3rd video card which is like Microsoft video controller which had like 14 mb of memory

No, due to the way that the gpu is connected. The intel hd is always connected to the monitor. Optimus lets you switch which gpu is rendering certain windows.

Don't uninstall the intel drivers as the intel gpu is needed to use the nvidia gpu.

Just DISABLE the Intel HD Graphics under Display Adapters in Device Manager.

I want to say my laptop has Optimus, but I'm not sure since it wasn't explicitly stated. But if it does and it's similar to mine, here's some points:

  • You cannot disable the Intel IGPU. Chances are the display outputs are connected to it.
  • You can force applications to use the iGPU or dGPU by going to the NVIDIA control panel -> Manage 3D settings -> Program Settings

Also some games may not play nice with the dGPU for some reason. For those you're going to have to live with using the iGPU
