I don't know if that is the actual name for this type of PC but ill briefly explain. I currently have a Radeon HD 7870 and I am planning to buy a 1080 to upgrade. I want to build another pc around the 7870 and I thought a pc that I could watch netflix and other streaming services. Like a firetv or something like that. I'm just wondering what parts I should get for a build like this. OS info wouldn't hurt either.

For just netflix and videos a 7870 is way overkill, lol. But here's a good bang for the buck htpc build. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/xdzv6X

EDIT: case is meh

I have no other use for it lol. Thanks

okay,  and if you don't end up doing any gaming you can use the intel hd gfx for movies and do something else with the 7870.

I3 is the best way to go?

In that price range right now yeah, otherwise, amd might have something later this year worth going for. I should note for an htpc quite and cool are good...amd am3 and fm2 series are not really either at the moment. But I can whip you up a fx 6300 build if you want.

I mean I really like intel, I just don't want it to be slow at times.

sweet

For reference, I have the cheapest skylay cpu for a htpc right now and it wipes the floor with my older A10 apu in terms of speed and cool, silent operation.

Can I get a smaller motherboard so I can get a smaller case?

Yeah sure, if you get too small of a case your 7870 won't fit though.

Edit: smaller parts tend to get a bit pricey at times fyi

If you are only going to be adding a GPU then the best motherboard to go for is mini-ITX as you can get really small cases for them which will fit better next to a TV then a full ATX board. A I3 would be perfect but if you where going to be gaming or other high intensive tasks a I5 might be good. But for Netflix and YouTube a i3 should be perfect. The only other thing to consider is getting a different CPU cooler to add performance and make your HTPC quieter. You can also get intel chips that can be overclocked but unless you are running really intense programs then there is not point.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?
