Hey all, after spending money on PC I can't afford a new monitor.

I have this one, though (link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-19-inch-Flat-Panel-Monitors/447429/model/3379248/document/c01434814/).

it is 1440x900, but doesn't have an HDMI port.

Does VGA affect video quality?? Also, how do I plug it in? Do I just plug it in from my video card port that sticks out of the case? (sorry if that is a bad description, don't actually have the PC yet)

Thanks all! :)

VGA can be affected by EMI and cable quality, so in a sense, it does affect video quality. However, at 1440x900, VGA is okay.

Plug it into the graphics card if you have one, if not, then use the port on the back of the motherboard.

since the resolution is under 1080p it wont affect video quality yes you plug VGA to the back of the case

Yes, VGA affects video quality, it's worse than digital standards, but it's alright for most people.

And depends on the GPU your new PC has. If the GPU has a VGA connection (which is highly unlikely) you just plug it in there. If it has DVI-I (not just DVI-D) you can purchase (or get with your GPU) a cheap adapter for DVI to VGA. Otherwise you will need something like displayport to VGA.

In your opinion is there a noticeable difference between 900p & 1080p?

Will probably only be getting a 1080p monitor late late late this year to mid next year :(

You can use a DVI to VGA converter on your video card's DVI ports, provided it's either DVI-I or DVI-A (refer to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface#/media/File:DVI_Connector_Types-r.svg)

VGA is also good up to 1920x1200 and further, but that's usually the limit.

Well, it depends on your tolerance. I don't really find it that bad, but some people may.

vga is Analog

the lenghtier cable you have, the more the quality goes down.

and yeah, direcly from the vga port.

you're better off with an actual 1080p display tho. and dvi / hdmi, they also have support for sound

My GPU is the R9 380x, I have not yet opened it. Does it have a VGA connection?

I looked up the Sapphire Nitro 380X just for reference.

No it does not have a VGA connector. It does have a DVI-I connector so you can get a cheap adapter to VGA (on their site it says it does not come with one)
