YAY Just Bricked My Brand New MSI X99A Motherboard!

Well was flashing my bios when poof off went the power. Hope this is covered by some sort of warranty. If not it was doa

Unfortunately it only has 1 bios chip.

Damn. I'd google the problem and if that doesn't help, contact MSI. Perhaps you can get yourself an RMA.

 

Someone should make a piece of hardware that can flash a BIOS into a motherboard from outside of it. That'd be dope.

Aw, snap. Dual bios on everything should be a thing, even cheapo GB motherboards have dual bios. The only reason I even bothered updating.

are you sure you can boot to the second BIOS?

 

because you mobo has a dual BIOS mode and its a physical switch on the board

ikr. My H61M-S2V-B3, literally the cheapest H61 motherboard at the time in september 2011, has it. It should be part of a standard honestly.

the BIOS switch is near the LED indicator

 

if you are in BIOS A, move to the right the switch for BIOS B

As @dragoon20005 has said . This motherboard does have two BIOS chips.

you should now be able to unbrick the first BIOS

 

you should nvr update the BIOS B which is the fail safe BIOS

look into your mobo manual

 

there should be once section covering about BIOS uodate/recovery

 

you will need to prepare a thumbdrive with the BIOS already inside and plug to the USB port which will be used for recovery

Using BIOS B, flash the stock BIOS onto chip A, then reboot into chip A and flash the new one.

ok that is one way but MSI should have a recovery for USB to BIOS A recovery without the need for flashing from B to A
