GTX 1070, or 970?

LightCode Gaming

So I have been thinking about upgrading my 960 2gb to either a 970 or a 1070 when it comes out.

I know I need a bit of a boost, and I doubt it's my CPU (I5 4690k @ 4.4ghz).

Used for recording while gaming. I'm planning on putting the old card to a separate build so that I can use a capture card to split my face-cam and the video for better editing post-recording, so selling it and going to a 1080 isn't an option, though I would love to have a 1080 from what I've seen/heard about it.

So what are your thoughts? 1070, 970, or go to a 1080 without a second build?

Cinebench R15: 636(all cores), 127FPS

i wouldnt go with 970 since the 390 is faster. just wait for 1070 benchmarks and maybe polaris.

secondary render machine isnt a bad idea. maybe go for a used 8350 since for rendering its better than an i5

I was actually planning on using an old chip I have; an A8 7600.
But it might not be fast enough now that I think about it... (I was only ever able to do 720p30 with it; could have been the GPU as well though, R9 255)

I'll look up an idea for a build after I've decided :)

Its pretty much guaranteed to cost significantly more than the 970 if its estimated performance is true.

Ngreedia might also pull off that founders edition BS so you pay $100 more for a reference card.

GTX 1080 will cost $599 and launch May 27, with GTX 1070 following June 10 for $379

Nvidia has unveiled the pricing, hardware specs, and release date for the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 graphics cards.  Same website. They got it from Nvidia. If they change the prices, then I didn't lie.

Wait for the 1070 to come out, then snipe a used 970. I bet cash you'd get one for $180USD.

Maybe. I'm not a big fan of buying used tbh.

If you are in EU, forget about 1070 since it cost 2x more than GTX 970.

If you can get a new 970 for $200-225, sure, why not?

If you can't (you can't), no reason not to snap up a 1070. I think we'll see a 4GB 1060, but I also think it's at least several months away.

Aerocool DS are the best fans you've never tried.

The reference clocked cards like the EVGA blower, the EVGA ACX, the Zotac, and others I'm forgetting.
