Hi,

With the purchase of my new CPU and motherboard recently, I was wondering what would be a good GPU for me to buy next to upgrade my R9 270x. Which has performed very well for the limits of the card. But I was looking at some cards and was wondering what would be able to max out games like the witcher 3 on my 1080p/ 60hz monitor i have no intention of 4k until the price of the monitors drop significantly. I was looking at the 980 maybe or the R9 390 or even the 970 I just wanted to get some other peoples opinions. (As I understand some of those cards might be a bit overkill for my resolution) I did also want to try and get a NVIDIA card I've never had one before always dealt with radeon and was kind of eager to maybe try one. My price range is probably around 500$(I know the GTX 980 is more then 500$ CAD) in Canadian pricing so. Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance.

My Specs:

GPU: R9 270x

CPU: i5-4690k 3.5GHz

CPU Cooler: Hyper 212 Evo

Ram: 24 GB

HDD: 1TB

PSU: Corsair CS650M

A GTX 970 is a great choice.

A lot of people will suggest the 390 but it is the same as the 970 at 1080p 60 hz

1070 anyone???

That's better for 1440p, it's overkill at 1080p

Here, you can see it manages at least 60 FPS in all games at 1080p

Damn does pretty darn well

I think it might be a solid choice for me because It's more price friendly do you think it will drop in price when the 1080 and 1070 come out, so should i maybe wait?

It will definitely drop in price, not sure how much.

If you don't need it right now, waiting won't hurt.

(I'd recommend  the MSI Twin Frozr V edition)

Either get a 2nd hand, super cheap 970, or jump straight to a 1070 once AIB variations launch.

Where would I get a 2nd hand card If i wanted to sorry might be a stupid question but never bought second hand.

eBay, Craigslist, Amazon, the Classifieds section of the forum... you gotta do your research. A great used card could be anywhere, just waiting for oyu to find it.
