Just something to chew on.

Not holding my breath here but I wonder if the MS Servers will get an overload on free upgrade downloads the few days before the free upgrade option disappears.

Though I know I will get comments like "why would it happen" or those that do will be dumb doing so" and the sort.

But you know as well as I know that it just may happen.

Food for thought. :|

I doubt it.  Think of this: Did they overload when all the eager people flooded them on the first day? :P  Do they overload every time they roll out a service pack or other major update to the entire world?  Plus they host OneDrive, business stuff, etc.  I think they can take it ;)

I may have been a bit exaggerate on the overloading part but still the system will probably be hit pretty hard either way.

There are always last minute to-do people.

perhaps, but I seriously bet there was more demand on day 1 than there will be on the last day

I plan on cloning a clean installation for every computer in my house to some 80gb drives so anytime a windows install craps the bed I can just clone the drive and have a fresh Windows 10 Pro x64 installation. That way I don't need to keep buying product keys. Most of my PC's are Dell so I can just use my Windows 7 Dell OEM disc (which means no product keys and is completely free) and upgrade to 10 for clean installations. I just have to make sure I do it by the free upgrade deadline.

But remember, Win 10 had a roll out launch to help space out downloads. Not everyone could download it on day 1.

With this, everyone is open to download it end of July. But I figure most people that wanted it would have upgraded by now.

The windows 10 license is matched to the hardware so you don't have to worry about having to buy a new key every time you want to do a reinstall.

I know it matches to the hardware, motherboard more specifically. Doesn't a product key only have 3 uses?

I've change just about everything in my case and never had to even reinstall with Windows 10. Very easy to upgrade. Including the motherboard.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

I remember when the update was made available, I wasn't offered it through the taskbar icon right away, so I manually downloaded it from the microsoft website :D Maybe those who waited were staged and spread out but the eager ones all went right to the source, I'm sure of it :P

I tried to get it from the site same day but all I got was that stupid pop up saying "upgrade reserved". I was even in the insiders program and used the prototype win10 for a bit and got nothing :'(

A limit on a product key would just mean you could only install it onto 3 different computers. Once Windows 10 is installed onto a computer it has access to it for life.
