New GPU advice (GTX 759 TI, GTX 950 or R7 370)

Hi guys,

 

I want a new GPU for my system. I am willing to spend up to €150 for a new card. So far, I have been looking at three GPUS in my price range, the GTX 750Ti, GTX 950 and R7 370.

 

I want to do some light gaming, I do enjoy racing games and I would like to play them at 1080p with reasonable detail. I would like to play some old NFS titles (Most Wanted 2012, Shift etc), The Crew and Minecraft would also be great.

 

I have seen reviews of the 750TI and it seems like a great choice, the R7 370 is roughly the same price and it kills the 750 TI hands down.

 

The 950 is also an option as it is quite new, and perhaps when the new Pascal GPUs come out the price will drop a lot. Does it perform as well as an R7 370 though?

 

The R7 370 seems to be quite a good choice and with the new Polaris GPUs coming ou, prices will also drop. The only problem with this card is that it apparently requires a 500w PSU. I currently have a CX430M from Corsair. My system would use 318w if I had a R7 370 in my system. Is it still safe?

 

If you guys have any other suggestions, please hit me up, ideally I would like to buy new parts rather than used.

 

My system specs if anyone needs:

• Intel Pentium G3258 @4.4 GHz
• Kingston HyperX Fury 1x 8GB RAM @1866 MHz
• 250GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD
• ASrock Z97 "Anniversary Edition"
• Corsair CX430M
• Arctic Freezer 13 CPU cooler
• Fractal Design Core 2300 Case.

GTX950, draws less power. r7 370 draws more power and has slightly higher temps.

so what would say I go for... Temps arent really an issue for me. I have 3 case fans

would reccomend the gtx950, it also has a higher fps per dollar

GTX 950 will crush the 750ti and the 950 and 370 are right on par with each other so going with the 950 is the better option due to the less power consumption and lower temps on the card. I've also heard the 950 is a great overclocker.

What if temps and overclocking are an issue? I am willing to sacrifice overclocking and temperatures if they really perform the same

If you're a university student lacking money and every dollar counts then I'd say the 750 ti. If you don't care how much you spend then go for the 950. (I'm a bit of an Nvidia fanboy). Soooo yeah

I honestly still wouldn't go for the 370 in this case. It's honestly just not a great card. I actually don't even know a single person that owns a 370 every ones always bought a 950 because it's the more stable card and is just overall a better chip than the 370. If you don't mind though you can try it if the price difference between the two is pretty big. 

 

 

p.s. I'm not trying to be an Nvidia fanboy. I actually really love AMD cards (the 390x is my favorite card and I'm sure the 490x won't disappoint), I've always been more of an AMD person just sometimes Nvidia is the better option.

I built a system with the 950 recently, it is a great card. temps will rise with ocing, but you have much temp headroom even on the reference cooling design (which most of the cheap models are). The MSI one I had ran at 60-65°C while gaming so you'll have much room to play

Right so most of you guys tell me that the GTX 950 is the better option... I just saw a review of the two cards and I am still not convinced that it is worth the extra 30 EUR. Yes the 950 beats the R7 370 in literally all games but All the games are playable no matter what card. As long as it handles playable frame rates, then its good for me.I am upgrading from an iGPU lol. So If I can play a game at 1080p at medium - high settings at over 40 FPS, then it will be perfectly fine for me. Who knows, maybe even the 750 TI might be good enough for me...

Just buy a used 960 for that price. Some of these used hardware have only been running in a system for a few months and are almost like new

Exactly.  There would be tons of 900 owners wanting to get a Pascal card.  You can probably get a used 960 from someone for less than $100.

370 if you find it for the same price as 750Ti but if not then 950!
