I agree, even im using a Skylake i7-6700 but if he(my friend) really wants a cheap build and i have to go back on AMD. Which one should i get that will run new games at 720p to 1080p max.

Buy an FX chip, it is current Gen for AMD and pretty cheap, maybe a 4300 (~80$)

Greetings everyone,

My friends wants a build a cheap gaming build for himself but unfortunately i only know about Intel processors. I was wondering if there are any good AMD processors for just gaming because he won't be using the system for any video editing or rendering, just pure gaming and some internet surfing. I was looking at Athlon X4 860K which is really cheap but i have no idea how will it perform in real world gaming and basic tasks like internet browsing and other basic things. Are there good AMD processors that will handle new game titles at 1080p max. He will be buying a dedicated graphics card for the build so no need for APUs.

Keep it simple.

don't get the 860k .. get the 845 . It's based on carrizo ( better IPc ) , is the same price , and has a better cooling solution ( while also producing less heat ) . you'll be able to OC with it's stock cooler.

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case

The 860k is a decent budget option. You really need to spend ~$200 to get a (new) CPU that will cut the cake for all games with little to no worry of bottlenecking.

So considering a budget build 860k is good, right?

If not let me know about a good(new) one

Keep it simple.

Actually he is a kind of guy who plays Battlefield and GTA V both.

Well AMD is gonna do a GREAT job, if he is in for some older titles, you might consider the Pentium G3258. Even though it is worse for Multithreaded, it has a much much better single core performance.

G3258 is horrible... some games even refuse to run with only 2 cores.

Considering the price of the two processors G3258 is better.

Yup, BUT if he likes old games it is better than AMD as only DirectX 12 games support multiple cores. (Btw I am not an Intel fanboy)

I prefer Intel over AMD but right now it's a different story. What if i push up the budget a little more? Are there any options? For games like Battlefield and GTA V both.

G3258 was great when it released but it got obsolete year ago...today it is good only if you want to upgrade cpu in next half year but don't have enough money right now. Sticking with it for gaming is good only if you want to play very old titles.
