Closed Over Ear Headphones

Looking for some nice clear closed over ear headphones, price would be like $500 max, not sure how many ohms I should be looking for, I don't even have a DAC and or headphone amp yet, I'm also looking for buying advice for those as well, also strictly not DJ headphones as well

 

my understanding is that generally sound cards are a poor choice because of the electrical interference inside of a PC case, so DAC and headphone amp combo would be better

A dac and/or amp is only recommended if 

1. You have very high ohm headphones

2. The onboard audio is very low quality (non issue with the majority of modern boards)

They do in that price range, but they are fashion headphones so the value is not the best.

Is there a difference in sound between open and closed earphones?

There can be.. Open will leak sound, but the sound will also be less inside your head.

Are there like studio professional grade closed back headphones? Did some general searching and it looks like most are aimed for open back

Generally open-backed have a 'wider' soundstage. If you can, try them both out. But really, it comes down to where you're going to be wearing them the most. At home, with minimal ambient noise and no one else to bother with your music/games; open-backed is probably the way to go. If you're out and about, listening in public, noisy environments or sometimes gaming with a mic, closed works out better. It really comes down to personal preference though. Are you doing any mixing/audio production? Or you just want a nice set of cans (hehe)? For a studio-grade closed back headphone, I've used older versions of the Sony MDR7506's (http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDR7506-Professional-Diaphragm-Headphone/dp/B000AJIF4E/). There are, just not as many, and open back usually presents a better value.

I like the finish on those, I think I might take a deeper look into senheiser though
