980ti 63c idle?

CAM says that my 980ti is idling at 63c. The card is a blower style 980ti super clocked.

Is this hotter than normal?

Yep. I'd check load first to make sure it's really at idle. Then try a fresh thermal paste install.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Um. Make sure the fans are running, check for dust and check out the thermal paste, but before you do all of this make sure the sensors are actually correct. at 1% load, the heatsink should feel cool to the touch, if it's at all "hot" then you might have an issue

I can feel pretty warm air coming out the back of the card. When im gaming and the card is at 100% the air is just short of hot enough to burn me.

Well 63°C isn't dangerous to GPU, so I don't think they will RMA it just because of that.

Please check your temps under 100% load.

Usually mid to low 70's when i'm running a custom fan curve on msi afterburner. If i use the stock fan curve it goes high 70's and sometimes 81-83

Well that's in normal temp range, so not sure if they would RMA for this.

You can try, but I don't think they will do it.

You can, but then you're out a graphics card for weeks, when it could just be the thermal paste. Your call.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Does it void my warranty to replace thermal paste? I just take off the shroud and put it on the micro-processor itself right?

EVGA? Then no, I think they say it does but they never inforce it, same with MSI. Not sure of anyone but Sapphire that enforces you not removing the cooler. Just be really careful, Linus has a great video on it.

I'm just quoting you to tell you that i fixed the problem. I was wondering if you are interested in what the problem was and how i fixed it. Basically there is an issue with 980ti drivers that make the card idle at a way higher temp when your monitor is running at 144hz. This is happening to a bunch of other people online, when i set my monitor to 120hz the cards temp instantly starts dropping and it idles at 37c. Apparently this driver keeps the card's core clock at 880mhz when the monitor is at 144hz it's supposed to run at 135mhz when idle.

yeah that apparently was a common issue. with 144hz monitors in general

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for that when I get my new monitor. Appreciate the heads up and I'll remember the fix.
