1440p GTX 1080 What display to buy? 2K or 4K?

Hello amazing people!

So my question is this: 
With the imminent release of the GTX 1080/1070 which I am assuming 80% of you will buy Day 1 what monitor should one buy?

Currently I am stuck trying to figure out if I should invest in a 1440p or a 4K monitor (both are Acer Predator displays).

Currently I am using an Asus 1080p @ 144hz.

The monitors in question are: 
XB271HK IPS G-sync 4k 60hz (without OC)
Or XB271HU IPS G-sync 1440p 144hz (without OC)

 

edit: For arguments sake let's assume the GTX 1080 will run most stuff @ 60 fps in 4k res. 
Reason why I am asking is because I am not sure if even with GTX 1080 a 4k monitor would be worth it @ 60HZ.

Sure you get more pixels but is that even something you would notice on a 27" screen.

Not to mention that the 4K screen is capped at 60hz (without OC) compared to the 1440p @ 144hz. 

What are your guys' thoughts on this? Hope I am not the only one with this question.

I personally think 1440p 144hz is the best experiance, - no 4k scaling issues,, faster refresh rate for gaming, easier to read text etc

Specs for the 1080 come out 27 may so not long to wait, so just hold your horses till then

That was my thinking also. 

Nvidia did say GTX 1080 will be better than Titan X, so for arguments sake assume you could run most stuff @ 60fps on the 4k display.

Still we think 1440 144Hz will be your best experience. 
Besides, its not like you're sitting an inch away from your monitor! you won't be able to see the pixels either way.

You'll get 84 more frames displayed to you and we know it can handle 1440p at max settings with those kinds of frame rates

Haha yeah, tbh I really doubt I would even be able to notice the difference from 144hz to the OC'd 165hz. But yeah looks like most people are leaning to the 1440p 144hz display. Might have to go down to local shop today and take a long hard look at it. =P

Just dropped it off and they ordered a new one, if the new one has a dead pixel too I will break shit!

Screen was very awesome though, and 1440p seems to idd be sweet spot, 4k would need UI scaling for sure.

1080 will be 20% faster than TitanX so still not enough for 4K@60 for demanding games. Get some nice 1440p, this resolution is sweet spot, you get high pixel density on 27 inch screen and at the same time performance remains overall sweet if you have high end card.
