Ok, So I found my moms old GS4 just laying around. We both upgraded a few months ago to iPhones (I got the 6s Plus and she got the 6s) I figured that I would wipe it and give it a shot just to dip my toes into Android phones. Im updating it to its latest supported version (v5.0 lollipop apparently). I'll have to mess with it and figure out how to remove all the bloatware that came with it though. Also, is there a way I could bring the phone to a more stock android experience?

You'll have to root to remove all the default Samsung apps or to flash a vanilla version of Android.

And how would one do that?

you can flash a custom rom to it, like cyanogenmod. since you are just messing around with it, id say get cm 13, which maybe a bit unstable but runs android 6.0, the latest and greatest.

Personally, I've never rooted a phone, so I wouldn't be the best person to ask. There's plenty of guides online if you do a little bit of googling. As far as I know, the process is relatively simple if you have a decent understanding of tech.

I actually couldn't underclock my 5 year old GPU to make it as slow as a next-gen console.

"decent" that's cute. I'll Bing it (yes I use Bing, deal with it) and take a look. Maybe after my AP test tomorrow though.....

Ahahaha good luck with those. I'm in the middle of my IB exams right now so I understand your pain:)

this guide is pretty straight forward. http://www.technobezz.com/how-to-flash-stock-rom-in-samsung-galaxy-s4-via-odin/

the hard part isnt actually flashing the rom or anything, its accessing download mode. i spent an hour, literally an hour getting that to work on a samsung tab 2 a few months back. I should also mention that you should do this on windows 7 if possible. the samsung drivers dont work as far as i remember on windows 8, though there is a workaround.
