Hey guys,

I'm looking for a cpu waterblocck that will fit in a 1U chassis and with mounting screws like this. image.jpeg

The distance between the screws is 3.5". I found this, CryoRig-C1-base-plate.jpg but it's a air cooler and I don't know the spacing between the screws

CPU AMD Ryzen 5 3600x | GPU GIGABYTE GTX 1070ti WINDFORCE | MOBO ASUS Prime X570-P | MEMORY XPG Spectrix 2x8GB 3200MHz  | PSU OCZ Zx 850W | CASE NZXT H440

Yea I'm trying to cool a 1U Server so I can use it as a workstation, Currently sounds like quad R9 290 References, lol.

Yea sure, PM on thursday. How is the CPU cooler mounted with only two screws?

just a heads up: many components of your server need cooling, this is done by those tiny little 40mm fans that make alot of noise, so removing those fans and only watercooling the cpu(s) isn't a very great idea :)

my solution to this would be: put the components in a larger case (i recently did this and now it's alot quieter :))

Hey guys,

I'm thinking about modding a passive CPU heatsink with custom mounting by cutting off the fins and attaching a water block to it, will that work or will the thickness of all the metal be too much?

CPU AMD Ryzen 5 3600x | GPU GIGABYTE GTX 1070ti WINDFORCE | MOBO ASUS Prime X570-P | MEMORY XPG Spectrix 2x8GB 3200MHz  | PSU OCZ Zx 850W | CASE NZXT H440

then unscrew the coolers and mount onto the cpu?

It only has two screws with a distance of 3.5". A regular cooler won't fit. Unless you can find one that does

zipties lol

I will do that if it is my last option, the board is hard to take out and I don't even think there is even enough clearance under the board for a zip tie.

Putting a Liquid cooler on top will have very little effect on the cooling as it will essentially still be functioning as a passive cooler, just with some water cooling the top of the fins instead of air. The actual cooling of the cpu is controlled by the vertical fins and the horizontal 'plate' will not have much effect. The reason for the 'plate' is to guide air to travel the full surface area of the fins

My idea is to cut off the fins, then attach a CPU block.

then how is that any different to taking off the passive coolers altogether? there are no extra mounting points? You don't even need to use zipties, just get thermal adhesive

There are only two mounting points per CPU, one on one side and one on the other, will thermal adhesive work? Is it hard to take off if I want to swap CPUs?

Thermal adhesive should suit your purposes best, if not, zipties seem your best bet, that's how my liquid setup works :P.

Do you use liquid or pads?

One more question, how much adhesive did you use? Same as regular TIM?
