Should I wait for the 1060?

Auxafly

WIll the i5 6500 bottleneck a 1060? I haven't built a rig, but I was aiming towards the 960 until I heard the news about the new graphics card. Does anyone know the price of the 1060 and when it's gonna release? Last of all, should I wait for the 1060 or buy a REALLY cheap 960. I don't play too many intensive games, I just don't want the feeling of regret if the 1060 is gonna be priced around $200 and performs like a 980ti or something.

I doubt itll perfom like a 980ti, maybe close but defo not as good. Judging by previous X60 cards, id imagine it to be around £180/ $200

Needs money for car parts :P

Is Nvidia launching a 1060 for now?

You can also wait for AMD's polaris which should come out in a few weeks. Even AMD's current midrange offerings (R9 380 and 380x) are superior to the GTX 960.

With the 9xx series cards the 960 didn't come out for quite a while after the 980 and 970,  but it would surely be a better investment at around $220.

What I would say to do is wait until the 1080/1070 come out, then buy a 970 when the price drops, iv been seeing then on craigslist for just 200 recently

Chances are the 1060 is coming a few months after 1080 and 1070.

I do believe though that AMD will probably come out with a 1060 equivalent based on Polaris in June or July, so you could consider that.

Also just realized that none of us have answered your real question.....

No, I don't believe a 6500 will severely bottleneck a 1060 or Polaris equivalent. Maybe it will a little bit in DX11, but in most DX11 games and probably all DX12 games it probably won't bottleneck.

I would suggest waiting for the Polaris, I'm doing the same. Was about to build my first setup a few days back, but when I saw the new nvidia GPU's I decided to postpone that plan. Still not sure if I should go for an Intel/Nvidia build or full-on AMD build (since its cheaper).

Expect a dual GPU that won't sell well. xD

They only do dual gpu at the high end and Polaris is not high end.

The GP106 for cards like the GTX 1060 is stated to be released in August, or around that month.  I do not see any performance claims for it as of yet though.

Here are my speculations:

(compared to a Titan X)

1080 = 120%

1070 = 100% ish

1060 ti = 70-80%

1060 = 40-60% <--unknown due to GP106 vs the 104 of all above.    This is about the GTX 970 or 980 mark assuming the 1080 is at the correct point.

1050 = 40-50%

1040 = 30-40%

1030 = 20-25%

1020 = 10-15%

1010 = 5-10%

1005 = 2-5%

I cannot help but feel excited about the GT 1040...  if it turns out to be 30-40% that would make it faster than cards like the GTX 960 and R9 380!

Thats just guessing pretty much, and a lot of hope.  Take these with a 20 lb package of salt.

For the Best builds and Price lists here is a world where many points of the price have been predefined already for your convenience!

The Xeon E3 1231 V3 IS BETTER Than the Core i5 4690K and a Significantly better value for the non-overclockers or value shoppers.

The OS is like a kind food, Try it before saying if you like it or don't.

Oh, is polaris the mid range then?  But, I know they will do a dual in the high end.  Honestly, I haven't been following the updates.

Yea,  vega is the high end due q4 2016 to compete with big pascal.
