GTX 1080 Aftermarket coolers

Encoded7

Hello guys!

Just witnessed the GTX1080 and yes i will be buying it, but I want an aftermarket cooler e.g. Asus strix or Gigabyte g1. The initial release is May 27th for the reference design. I was just wondering how long it will be until the aftermarket coolers are released?

If you have a good card now, I suppose you can wait....

Gigabyte has actually been teasing an aftermarket release. My money is on a couple AIB partners pulling off an almost concurrent release as the reference designs like last time. Sure, TDP is much lower, sure they run way cooler, and sure they have their own binned version now with the founders edition, but aftermarket versions come with a multitude of advantages over reference designs other than thermals or aesthetics. Better caps, more power phases, better VRM and VRM cooling, not to mention sometimes binning without the $100 hit Nvidia wants to put on it. If people were super excited about the supposed OC headroom on the reference designs, I feel we'll be seeing even more of that with aftermarket designs. For one, the whole single 8-pin power connector deal is a great piece of marketing, but I wouldn't put it past most AIB partners to stick an additional 6-pin connector for extra juice.

In any case though, like all the voices of reason have been saying, hold onto your hats until 3rd party reviews are actually out in the wild.

@Encoded7 I also don't have a GPU right now, and will be buying the MSI 1080 when it eventually comes out, (Black and Red build) There was a leak about the MSI 1080 whether or not it was true I am not sure. But I will be putting the £500 to the side saved for when it first comes out. I am just hoping it out soon and I am sure it will be worth it.

I also am gonna wait for people's reviews on the 1080 just to make sure it isn't a pile of shit.

Do the after market guys like gigabyte get to start working on their custom coolers on the video card after it is released or their given the cards prerelease to start work on them?

67°C on that card at 2100MHz overclock with stock cooling ... I don't realy see reason why should we need aftermarket coolers. And those temps were in Texas where is hot AF right now.

But to asnwer your question, it takes few weeks so other companies will prove this card with differend coolers.

I will just buy 1070 when it comes out. I just hope it won't cost 500€ in my country xD

I know, I have been wanting to build a gaming PC for so long and just to be able to treat myself after a year of hard work and just before i go to college is amazing, my final paycheck comes through this thursday, once i come home from work the order is going through on amazon for every other part, then its just a waiting game for the 1080. But its okay cause itll take amazon at least 3 weeks to ship it all to ireland i just know it xD

I have been looking into something like this. Don't know if this will fit on the 1080/1070 but maybe.

There is no binning for the FE.
But I agree that we will see AIB partner cards very shortly after the release, those who sell exclusively Nvidia cards should also benefit from a better release date.
Expect them to be released within a week of the release of the FE.

Prerelease, but honestly they won't need to rework any of their old designs as the new chip is even cooler than the 9xx series. I wouldn't be surprised to see some crazy good overlooking on an AIO design.

My bad, this post was made before the whole FE thing had finally calmed down and we had some proper info. But yes, my money as well is within the first few days, like last time. Gigabyte almost dropped their G1 stuff immediately upon release.

I hope Gigabyte does so, I really don´t want to wait to longxD A G1 would be fine for me (need the lighting of the Windforce logo XD) but an Xtreme Edition would be even better. Maybe I will wait till August...

yeah though no need to go over the top with those TDPs a good 850w will be plenty ! Maybe even a 750 would do it, but I prefer the head room !

Did you notice hype about those cards?

MSI, ASUS, EVGA, Sapphire and Gygabyte are racing who will be the first to offer those new cards with differend coolers.

I think you will be able to see those cards avaliable in like 1 week after release
