What CPU for this MoBo

Go to solution Solved by Bacon8tor,

all you have to do is google the model number

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=super+micro+x7dwn%2B

http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Xeon1333/5400/X7DWN_.cfm

its an LGA 771  -> pretty old socket type

http://www.amazon.com/Intel-Xeon-E5450-Fsb1333Mhz-Lga771/dp/B00180J5G6

http://www.ebay.com/sch/Xeon-LGA-771-Computer-Processor/164/bn_650956/i.html

i dont know how much of a "baller" dual cpu it willbe these CPU are mostly 4 core and no hyperthreading so 4 cores is 4 cores. so it would be no better having 2 of them it would be the same as an i7

didnt expect it to be up to par with current server components, ive just always liked motherboards/graphics cards that support multiple processors on the same pcb. The concept has always interested me. Thanks! very helpful

you can get some pretty awesome Xeons for that board :D

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

no problem.

Yea i totally agree if you want some dual CPUs stuff make it easier check this out , it will be easier if you were in the US to ship but the advantage is that most have ram but you might not be able to get multiple graphics cards in the machines

yea absolutely , ill even put an OS on it for you if you want before I ship, even if you have questions about other stuff, Ill do my best to answer them , messing around with servers is super fun, when its not work related -> this usually means something is wrong lol and no servers = no money for company

networking and servers are two things ive always wanted to learn but never had time, Maybe once i am further through my degree I can spare a few classes. Its always seemed super interesting and the possibilities with what you can do are endless when working with server equipment and programs

why do you need to take classes to learn?

I have never taken a single course(paid course) for IT.

I am a IT Director for a large HVAC company, and the only one in the department.

I just started with a small old lga775 server box and installed linux started with a LAMP stack, once I got that down jsut said that would be cool to have and pretty much you can find a tutorial on anything. if that fails come to the forums it has been a great help since I joined only like a couple months. A virtual machine is something to consider as well it allows you to basically have any other machine without needing the physical hardware. you could make an entire enviroment that would be in a small company on a single computer. VM's are really the bees-knees

I am only 27 yrs.old , been in the industry for about 2 yrs. only been really learning server sdmin stuff for about 4 yrs. and now have a salary paid job.,

I want to dual major in mechnanical engineering and computer science, so to get the degree some classes are necessary and extra ones just make my transcript look better. Also i dont have a lot of free time to teach myself and if i take the classes i get credits which are very valuble

Just sayin in the time that youve been having this convo and just about as many lines written you could have installed centos and started your lamp stack.
