Best CPU for 390X

Hi guys (and gals). I've been looking at the R9 390X and was thinking that the 8320, 8350, and other AMD processors would be adequate for this GPU. Blaintly put, it's a gigantic bottleneck. What CPU should I get? I'm planning on playing on a 1440p/144Hz monitor w/ FreeSync.

Something that won't be a bottleneck but won't be overkill. I'll probably be streaming and plan on learning some app development/video and photo editing in the near future.

The best one you can get for an amount of money you feel OK spending on a CPU

i5 6500?  i7 6700k?  5960X?  It depends on you.

Anything above and including a 4690k

The mac i would get if the system is only going to be used for gaming and other normal tasks a 6600K if you do video production , CAD work or anything like that a 6700 or higher

i7-6700K is best but a i5-6600K should do well!

 

But if you want a FX line CPU the FX-9590 + 990FX board will work but it is a bit low performance per dollar sadly...

No AMD will give you the processing power to drive the 390X. You can:

 

- Get an i5-6600K ($250) or Xeon 1231v3 ($250) or i7-6600K ($350) or i7-5820K ($350) and their respective motherboards/compatible RAM.

 

- Wait for the new release of AMD CPUs and see if they have good performance / dollar at the higher end of the spectrum, then get that and its respective motherboard / compatible RAM.

i5 4690K / i5 6600K
i7 4790K / i7 6700K

 

Or anything in that area.

I think it's pretty clear above means "with better performance than". That's how I understood it when I was 10 and looked at system requirements, that's how I understand it today.

I realize that, it's pretty obvious. I'm just putting out there that it's a pretty vague thing to say, especially when you say "performance". Is that IPC, GHz, etc, etc. I'm just trying to highlight that terms like these are pretty vague.

your going to want to spend a few more bucks on a good cooler if your going to overclock...

thats why i reccomended the xeon b/c its basically the i7 without igpu

your going to want the hyperthreadding when your editing and stuff

I fully agree on the Xeon

 

It's compatible with consumer grade haswell mobos anyway.

I would say an i5 4690K or i7 4790K

Or if you can afford it maybe even a 6700K or even a 5820K?
