7950 vs ps4

pyr0

Hello.

I am building a gaming PC for My sister at a low price. I also have made a wager with a few friends that this PC will be faster than a PS4

Paired with a amd athlon x4 860k, will a radeon hd 7950 outperform a ps4 in games?

Thanks in advance

What is your total budget? But overall the 860K will do wonders with the 7950. Unless you've got the CPU and GPU, make sure you OC your GPU and CPU. :D

Yes, the 7950 should easily out-power the PS4's Quadx2 APU.

My only thought is unlike kepler, amd actually still provides driver updates for the 7000 series

yeah , the 7950 should have no problem beating the ps4 thanks to more stream processors and faster clocks ( especially once you overclock ). It also has more dedicated vram ( considering the ps4 pools it with the cpu )

Yeah. A lot of my friends are console peasants who say you can't beat a ps4 for the price of a ps4 on it's own. I imagine next they will be saying graphics aren't everything. Then II will build a £100 PC since graphics don't matter and all

yeah but its still limited by windows and dx11. its the only advantage of consoles that every game is specially made for the hardware.

pc is still better though!

That seems a weird split. I don't think it is a 8320. It is at 1.6 GHz. Either way. My main reason for gaming on PC, other than being a hardware enthusiast, is that I Am fine with lower graphical settings, as long as I am getting over 60 fps. I can't stand locked 60 or locked 30. Plus there are way more games on PC, hence me building my sister a PC instead of buying her a console

if you factor the fact that you have to pay for online and the way more expensive games you can spend more than the initial price of the ps4.

and the controller is extremely uncomfortable

i agree with the internet part, but the games and the controller part is meh. The controller is opinion based and the games on ps4 get pretty cheap pretty quick.

Yeah. But you get "Free games" I know. You pay £30 a year to get "Free Games" And you have to buy a "Gaming" Mouse and keyboard and buy a monitor. Even though I have shown them me using my PC with a tv and a 360 controller. I will eventually convert them. I have already got 1 set up with a PC setup

its an 8 core. Sure the clock isnt as high but its still a beefy cpu. Sony makes only 14 dollars per ps4. They pack as much as they can.

They made a loss on the 360. They take a third of all game sales revenue (Hence the pricier Games) and charge for online. They shouldn't be making money off the hardware. And just because it has a similar core count doesn't mean that it is similar in performance. You could argue that it is more like a 5960x as the clock speeds are closer. No. It doesn't come close to any quad core+ CPU you can buy nowadays. The ps4 should be faster and it is holding PC Games back in my opinion. Feel free to bring up your reasoning. I haven't had a good debate in ages.

but again, were arguing a 350 dollar initial budget here. OFC a PC thats even 500$ would outperform it. But because of its optomization its hard to beat for the price unless you get good deals on used parts.

yeah but you dont own them and you can only play them if your online i think. its like the origin thingi where you pay monthly.

I am building a PC that costs £200 that, according to most of the people here, will outperform the ps4. That, used is £220. I thought I should even it out a little. The £20 is for an OS, specifically a key off kinguin.

Yea for 200 pounds no shit. But in mist places the 7950 on its own costs 150 used. The PC your building new is easily over 500. Yes yours will "outperform" it but its not as optimized or balanced for that matter. Look at the new final fantasy game. That game looks god damn fantastic. The ps4 isnt "weak" by any means but it could be better. Thing is the console market is not enthusest. And If sony sold at a loss they would go bankrupt. Legit playstation is the ONLY division of sony that isnt in the red and playstation is keeping them afloat. Plus what would 14 dollars add in terms of performance. Also its only 300 USD not 350. My mistake.
