Cheap'O cabinet lighting

I am looking to add cheap lighting to my media console.  I am thinking of getting an LED strip, cutting it down to size (6in) and soldering it to the end of a cut up USB cable.  I know the USB wires support 5v and .5 amps.   I plan to plug it into an Xbox One so when it powers up, the cabinet won't be so dark.  Will my tomfoolery work?  Or should I get an all in one prepackaged LED lighting from amazon?  Think adding a switch would be bad or limit the flow?

You know, in my searching and about 30 minutes on Amazon, I never once came across this listing.  Great find.  Will look into it.  I guess one of my thoughts is to do some wiring and pat myself on the back from figuring out electronic circuitry.  (and for not shorting out any electronics)
