CPU fan twitching? Cpu fan smoking? help!!

logan

So a friend of mine gave me a computer to fix, he said it needed a new cpu fan

SOOOO

i did some test: :ph34r::ph34r:

1. booted pc couple times, the fan twitches like it wants to go, but doesn't do anything, says "511-CPU fan not detected"

2. plugged in a different 4-pin cpu fan to see if it would move.....it started smoking

3. plugged in a 3-pin fan and held it in front of the still placed cpu fan, the 3 pin made the 4 pin move, and it booted fine and dandy

He said i could buy him a new cpu cooler (well..purchase it for him, but it would take me while to see what cooler to use with his case and such)

Picture 1 = what comes up when turning on pc (except for when i did test 3)

Picture 2 = the 4-pin connector of the fan that "twitches"

Picture 3 = the 4-pin connector of the fan that smoked

Picture 4 = not clear picture of where 4-pin/3-pin were plugged in

Picture 5 = pic of motherboard

Can you provide pictures of the board and the slots that the 3 and 4 pins were plugged into?
