Athlon x4 860k & Gigabyte GA-F2A78M-HD2

Hi,

So I am putting my first build together (on pcpartpicker) and when I get to my part list it says everything is compatible apart from when you add in the motherboard to the list (GA-F2A78M-HD2) it says in the compatibility notes that "Some AMD A78 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Kaveri CPUs." (and I don't really want to be dealing with this on my first build) So basically my question is will the AMD Athlon x4 860 work fine with the Gigabyte GA-F2A78M-HD2???

dont get that cpu. just dont. save for an i3

Very unlikely now unless the board have been in the store for a very long time, but make sure it is a 860K with the new cooler so you will not need a new to keep it silent. BTW if you plan to OC I am not sure that board can because some A78 motherboards will not OC at all... :(

LGA1150 or LGA1151? The 1150s are not worth their price at the moment and 1151s are way more costly... :P For the 1150 price he/she could get a decent MSI 970 Gaming AM3+ & FX-6350 with the ability to OC and some what more future proof due to the fact all games are now mostly optimized for 8-threads! :D (why? because AMD rules the console market and all consoles has 8-cores)

LGA1150 or LGA1151? 150 aud for a 4 thread intel cpu. sounds fair to me...
