I want to play a game with my son, but finding one is difficult because the market is so saturated.

Relevant bullet points:

- No preference to local versus LAN. We both have computers so can swing either way.

- We also have 360 controllers if necessary or helps with selection.

- Neither of us are into sports games, Rocket League, or online shooters like Counter Strike.

- I'm not into games with difficult boss battles.

- I'm fond of first and third person games, but not so much RPGs.  I'm not against 2D.

- He likes 2D.

- Cost, if I need to buy two copies, I'd like to keep it under $60 total for the pair.

- Both of our computers specs are capable, so system requirements aren't really a problem.

- We both like a good story. Co-op would be preferred, but not mandatory.

Hopefully I can get many replies with lots of suggestions so I have a many titles to read about.

I tried to come up with as much criteria (above) as I could think of that would matter.  If there are additional things to consider that would help narrow down some ideas, please ask.

Thanks!

Lemme hear your shooters. Maybe you know some we haven't heard of.

Well the big ones for me are Borderlands series.

Orion: Prelude is pretty good and it's only a dollar.

Orion is a coop fight against dinosaurs. You can play as 3 classes with dif abilities, you can buy weapons and upgrade your character and get vehicles n stuff. A fun little coop game for sure.

I make bad life decisions.

Hmm, maybe strategy games like Civ 5? The whole DLC is often on sale. Takes a while to play. I think you have to be a certain type of person to like it. I love it and have friends who love it as well but others who don't. AOE series come to mind like this as well. Terraria or Minecraft maybe.

Your son likes 2D game???

The Assassin's Creed series have a couple of 2D games: like Assassin's Creed Russia and Assassin's Creed China.

Those games are 2.5D and the graphic looks beautiful.

I think that it suits for your son.

Go check it out!

Also another 2D game that I've played is called Shank.

I would recommend finding a MMO to play. This would be the simplest method. Also on the internet exists Emulated video games from past consoles (for gamecube, n64, etc.. one may just Google "gamecube emulator" etc) which allow one to have a virtual simulator for pretty much any gaming device or console you can think of except the latest gen.

For coop I would recommend the Borderlands Series. Highly replayable and very enjoyable. You could find the games in a bundle with the DLC on Steam or online somewhere. These games are not too difficult depending on your settings, have some rpg elements (mainly for special abilities) and you can customize guns and grenades to have special effects. There is looting, and a huge, impressive backstory. I would recommend watching some videos for the games and forming an opinion. They are top notch co-op games and you'll make lots of fun memories with them.

For mmo I can't really recommend much since you don't care for rpg.

Maybe do some research and pick a handful of mmos to choose from based on what genres you and your son prefer, there are tons of games out there to play.

For emulated games one could search Google for "console emulators" which are used to play the games and find the corresponding files (ROM, ISO, so on) for the games themselves (also utilizing a search engine etc, maybe find a guide of how/what to install and play etc).

Hope this helps!
