Best 2TB Harddrive?

;w; I would like speed too.. but that probably becomes with noise, right?

Once again, the noise on Black series drives are substantially louder than Reds.  I have a Synology NAS filled will (8) WD 3TB drives.  I got a great deal on one of the drives, which was a Black series.  The remaining 7 are Reds.  I can hear that one drive over the other 7 and it's very loud.  I'm going to swap it out for a Red simply because I don't need the speed of that individual drive, since they are all running in a RAID anyways and that drive is essentially making noise for no real reason.  :D

I'm sure this has been asked before but It's nice asking anyways :3 I love you guys and like to talk to yah. BUT YIS! I bought a severely cheap 2tb already and I wanna transfer data from it to another. I am split between the Seagate Barracuda 2TB or the WD Black :3 Which is good in your guys's experience? Perhaps even a brand I am not thinking of?

i would personally go with WD

but the black is loud

red gets almost as good speeds while running cooler and quieter

also has longer MTBF i think

Any Harddrive will have sub 100MBS speed. its the Mean Time that matters.

For now, HDD's are dying, Servers are moving to SSD's, Enthusiasts and now prosumers.

I think its wiser know to get a Barracuda, Because a TB of an ssd had drop down from being 3000 dollars to 300 in 2 years, expect them to be 50 dollars by the time youre hdd dies.

Other reccomendations,

using it (on) 24/7? Nas Drives, They usually last longer.

using it Casually/Archival?

no, i was talking about the red

the red pro is more expensive and more datacenter grade

the red is more like the price of the black

A blue drive is FINE. when did you need a red for storing data lol.

You're damn right it's louder.  :D  Considerably faster than my reds, but it's definitely louder.

Agreed.  The WD reds are about as good as you can get in the balance between performance, durability and noise.

I can only find them in 5200rpm models. Dont I wanna aim for 7200?

If your purpose is bulk storage, you don't really need to worry about it only being 5200 RPMs.  That's more than plenty.

HDD obselence, i said. Contrary to some might believe Those 7200 RPM only goes ~20MBS faster, AND MOST OF THE TIME LESS!

The only reason I'd go with a Red over blue is that the Reds are optimized for better data throughput at 5200 RPMs.  They are designed for sustained use in home servers and NAS units and have a much lower failure rate.
