Help with Cooler Master CPU cooler?

FullTank1337

So, I found a Cooler Master CPU cooler in my spare parts bin one day, and decided to throw it in my rig. Only problem: it doesn't have any motherboard mounts, it's literally just copper, aluminum, and a fan.

I tried using the mobo mounts for my old stock cooler, and shattered it into a million pieces, and now I just have the CM cooler zip-tied (off center) semi into place. Have the thing horizontal and very afraid to bump it.

Is it possible to get just a motherboard mount for the thing, or do I just need a new CPU cooler all together? BTW, it's LGA775

Here's a pic of the cooler. Sorry I didn't take a pic before installing it.

idk but it looks very similar, much older tho. It's just a plain black fan (very noisy) and the actual contact point is half copper half aluminum. Looked pretty BA compared to my intel stock cooler, so I kinda jumped the gun on upgrading.

Well, the temps are pretty much the exact same as before... not bad but... I really don't trust this setup. It wiggles all over the place.

Well the Hyper 212 has a very quiet fan so its not that then xD.

Well, that's kinda where I'm stuck. I tried to BS this thing onto the stock mount and broke it. So now I can't even use the stock cooler. I guess I'll dig around for an accessories pack, but without a model no, it's kinda hard to even start. If that doesn't work, am I just stuck buying a new one altogether?

well a good option is just buy a new cooler

can i has a picture of the cooler from the other viewing angles? the base where the heat pipes comes out is a pretty good point to recognize what cooler it is

it definitely looks like a hyper 212 evo from the top, of which the accessories are pretty much everywhere

does look like the hyper 212 evo, perhaps you can try sourcing a mounting bracket for it

Looks pretty similar. Yeah, I'll do some reasearch for the next day or so, and see what's out there. I'll post what ends up happening. Thanks!

lol thx. It's pretty terribad.

Found this on Google. It's the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus (not Evo). Looks pretty much identical to mine, so I think that's what it is.

...also, found this on CM's website. $10 is a little steep for a mounting kit, I'm already at the Ramen-noodle-all-the-time point of broke... I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and do it. Trying to sell some stuff off already, but no luck recently.

*sigh* I do these things to myself m8.

i believe all the hyper 212 share the same mounting hardware

if the mounting hardware cost too much, i recommend you just buy a new one

or find a stock cooler that no one wants anymore lol

I went ahead and bought a brand new mounting kit. $10 is a lot, but I didn't want to go back to stock, and I definitely can't afford a whole new one. Hope this thing overclocks well, I was kinda hoping I could save up for a Xeon CPU at a faster clock, but I guess that'll have to wait.

lol have fun on your overclocking journey,

be wary of temps while you do as the hyper 212 isnt meant for heavy overclocking :P

So, my new mounting bracket came in the mail today, and I just spent the last 2 hours installing it and... I broke it. My PC lights up and all the fans/drives spin as they should, but it does not post, and gives me no beep codes.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

I don't know what to do now. With my aging gaming PC, I'm seriously thinking about installing a new Mobo/CPU/RAM, but that's expensive, and IRL has left me beyond flat broke.

EDIT: Nevermind, just killed one of my RAM sticks (RAM slots? I sure hope not...) got it working with half memory. BTW, congrats Moonzy on your 6969th post. You must be proud.

how'd you went from installing a cooler to a broken ram (slot)? D:

maybe you should've unplugged all the rams while installing your cooler

and gg when you break your cooler mounting again `-`, maybe you should read the manual?

how tight did you lock the screws? maybe your cpu socket is broken if it's too tight

and thanks for the gratz :P

Yeah, I should have removed my RAM. It's definitely a slot on the mobo that's dead, I tested both sticks individually, and they work fine.

I guess it is possible I damaged the mobo somewhere, I installed the cooler pretty tight (more than finger tight)

well... normally as long as it makes a god contact with the cpu, it should be fine

over tightening the cooler can break the cpu's socker or crack the motherboard sometimes

or even bend the cpu's pcb `-`
