I wouldn't recommend pairing it with that power supply.

Give me a minute- I'll see what I can come up with.

Would you be willing to use rebates?

Minor overclock, maybe a larger one if you overclock the GPU even more, but you should be fine

Is it worth it? The 980 ti at this pricepoint?

In my opinion, no. either wait and get a Pascal 980 (Might be called the 1080) coming out later this year, or save up a little more money. some of the components that you have are pretty low quality, and some others, like the 8gb of RAM, will probably need to be upgraded later anyways.

another thing to note is that many AMD cards have 8GB of VRAM instead of 6GB, so if you are playing VRAM demanding games at 1440p, even though it probably wont be an issue now, 8gb gives you some more headroom to play with

if you have a 1440p monitor, i would advise you to not play at 1080p. imperfect scaling makes a big difference.

No. PCIE is backwards compatible. a GTX Titan X can run on a PCIE Gen. 1, and will probably be able to run on a PCIE Gen 5 if/when they ever come out

There really isn't any reason to have 8 GB of RAM at any resolution right now. 6 (even 4) GB is more than enough even at 4K. Of course there's the possibility that games in a year or so could suddenly ramp up their VRAM demands, but future obsolescence is an unavoidable possibility no matter what you buy. Chances are that if a 980 Ti with 6 GB couldn't cope with these "future games," an extra 2 GB of VRAM on the [slower] R9 390 may not be enough either.
