The FX series of CPUs is old and slow.  Waste of money a.k.a.:  better off with an i5.

i dunno it works fine to me the black edition runs great and i5 is pricey so in my eyes intel is a waste of cash lol i would rather buy what works for as little as i can get away with

They are functionally the same thing. The Black Edition aspect was AMD saying you could overclock a CPU using the multiplier. All FX CPUs can be overclocked.

You must be living under a rock.  You have to seriously overclock the FX CPU in order to even try and keep up.  That is what your CPU is:  an overclocked FX 83XX.  The FX 8-series and FX 9-series are the same CPU, just binned.

That cooler could never cool a 9590. I had a bigger one and it still couldn't do the job.

You also for some reason left out the price of a cooler on your Intel build. Odd thing ain't it.

That said i still play everything on ultra high on 3440x1440 res with no issue.

In some dense polygonal sections like fallout 4 cities I get tiny bits of stutter but otherwise perfect.

they're old and slow, but also cheap. if you're going for numbercrunching per dollar they're actually still pretty good value.

on topic: black edition stands for the color your motherboard will turn if you dont have the mostest betstest VRMs in the world.

Too much effort.  I would rather have this and outperform the FX:

can we *please* stop arguing over FX's speed?

@stconquest fyi, the thread wasnt about intel being faster the thread was about OP already HAVING A FRIKKIN FX and asking what was the difference in black edition.

I answered it.  OP asked the question regarding my criticism of a FX CPU's terrible value (in most cases).

You're still missing the price of a cooler that could perform.

this kind of threads is why i wouldnt want to be moderator of a tech forum (the ltt mods are doing a quite good job already either way :P)

The difference is obvious, no one got it right yet. The black edition will steal your PC and wallet at night.
