We won't know until it releases.

I doubt there would be a drop, maybe by 10%. Nvidia's GPUs don't normally drop down in price.

For instance the GTX 780 still costs quite a lot.

Would they drop? Yes, probably a little. I wouldn't expect much though, as the current generation have already dropped a good bit since initial release. I'd rather expect the price of Pascal GPU's to shoot up to (or a bit beyond) the usual launch price of NVIDIA GPU's. There's no way to know for sure until it actually happens though.

nope... why? because if the price drops noone is gonna buy the new ones... it never happened and it wil never happen

That's not true. The prices of the 7xx generation dropped when the 9xx generation released. There will always be a market for the new GPU's, there's a huge bunch of enthusiasts just waiting for their bi-yearly fix.

SNIP

Generally the stock is run dry before the new GPUs launch, Nvidia stop shipping GPUs a while before the new ones are launched so that stores are out of stock of old cards

if there is a price drop it wont be that big, and there will be limited availability on any heavy price drops

Prices dropped few months back (wasnt it by $20 or something?)

I can see 5% drop, why not. But nothing big.

I know when 900 series came out, the 960 costed 10% less than my 760 brand new (many months after 700 series release).

This is not only up to Nvidia but each individual store. Here in Norway they usually have a sale on old generation cards. Sometimes as much as 30% off. But it really depends, if the store is already out of stock or nearly they probably don't do it as heavily, but if they still have 100's of card stockpiled they usually do so. Having that said 30% off in Norway is still quite expensive, and this might not be a thing that happen every generation either. So as every else say, we have to wait and see. I'd say atleast speaking on Norway's behalf that the prices will drop a little.

I once explained to my girlfriend what true love is. I said, "If you were a shit, I'd put you back in" and to this day, she is still my little shit.
