Really old Optical drive in new computer [Solved]

AlveKatt

Will there be an issue with plugging my nine years old optical drive into my new x99 motherboard?

I thought when I got this computer an optical drive would be a waste of space, but I had forgotten that I like to transfer my old music cds to the computer now and then to be able to listen to them while doing computer stuff. So I want to move the drive from the old computer to the new one.

as long as your optical drive is Sata and not Pata, you're fine.

If the ODD has SATA then there will be no problems. If, however, it runs over IDE you will not be able to plug it in to your new motherboard. Fear not though, new ODDs are quite cheap.

If its SATA, no. If its IDe you'll need to get one of the PCIe 1x SATA/IDE RAID cards. Also, if its for example a Poineer 5x DVD drive....expect it to be slow at everything, and use a 52x CD drive alongside it if you have one to spare.

I have an old PATA Pioneer DVR-110D in a SATA-only machine.  With one of those PATA to SATA adapters that you can order for $2 or so.  I'd suggest hot-glueing the adapter into the DVD drive, just to make sure it doesn't fall out.

Thank you all!

I opened the old computer to take out the drive, but I will be waiting until its drier outside. I am not putting my hand in that thing until I have dragged it outside and removed the dust with a can of air...
