When do you think this will happen, or will it?

(PS i know I can't do this but another thread is pointless in my eyes, what is the best card I can use with my EVGA 550W GS PSU?)

maybe a couple months, or at least until the next intel processor comes out

Ubuntu 24.04 on Ryzen 5 5600x and GTX 1070

Mint 22 on Razer Blade i7-11800h and RTX 3070

Haswell is no longer being manufactured - by the time Kaby Lake drops it won't be sold anymore

You might find a vendor looking to clear out stock every now and then, but otherwise Haswell prices will not drop, and supplies will soon get spotty.

Should I buy the best haswell cpu within the next year or so? Currently got a i5 4670k oc to 4.4 at 1.2v stable

Why?  Do you need more performance than your current rig delivers?

If not then save the money and upgrade in a few years.

Well the cpu´s might slightly drop in price over time, but not by much.

Also if you can find a decent Z97 board, you also going to pay top money for it.

So for people who are building a new system, there is realy not much of a reason to go with Haswell over Skylake anymore in most cases.

Especialy with an eye on the future, on which Haswell boards will only become harder and harder to get,

because they are EOL and not produced anymore.

Next to that DDR3 is also on its way out, and therefor the prices of DDR3 will also raise over time.

Another good reason to go with Skylake.

I've had my cpu for 2 years now. I'll be looking to sell my cpu ram and mobo in the next 2 years or so

I think the norm has been that vendors will just stop carrying that generation before they actually become discounted.

You'll have to jump back to Ivy Bridge for decent savings, which is a platform past it's premium but still pretty viable.  Second hand vendors (ebay) or clearances are the only way to get discounted CPUs most of the time.
