This may seem like a noob question, but help me out if you can.

So i went to system configuration/boot menu/advanced options to see that the no. of cores is set to one, when I should be having 4. There is a way to change this manually but I dont know what kind of consequences that can have. I have an intel core i7 4510U it that helps (this is on my laptop).

Should I manually set the no. of cores to 4 or just leave it at 1? I have attached a picture for your reference.

just leave it, under the tab processors all your 4 threads are showing up :)

so is it something like this? When the CPU is under load all 4 threads work themselves up and otherwise, its only two that are active?

And if I do  set it manually to 4, it does not make a lot of difference except more power usage yes?

just leave it, it means that you have one processor, and you cannot have 2 processors in an i7 laptop

Do not change any option in this panel. This panel is reserved for hardware and driver developers, and special cases for other developers.

This is not for any other power user to use or to play, this includes most devs as well.
