AMD FX 8350 vs i5-4690

I´m thinking about upgrading my CPU becouse my AMD FX 6300 makes my GTX 970 have some downgrade.Wich one of those would give my a better performance with the 970?

i5-4690. Hands down the better option for gaming.

4690 because of a higher per core performance with helps in games as well as the upgrade path it presents.

4690 all the way.

If you can afford it, i5 4690k + Z97 motherboard.

But if money's a bit of an issue, an FX8350 would do alright.

4690 is way better than the 8350. If you are going to get an 8350, get a really nice board and a water cooler. My 4690k 4.5Ghz usually sits around 30% in gaming while my 970 100me is 100%.

i5 pros:

*Better in MOST games and single core performance.

I agree with you, but you must realize the large jump there is in performance. The 8350 is really good, I a recommend it to anyone on a budget and who wants a decent gaming PC. But the 4690 is just SO much faster.

I have read that the 4690 dosn´t out perform the 8350 for much.

I love my FX-8370 it does everything but DayZ good!

The FX can be worse than Pentium to better than the i5 depending on the game/program...

I´m planing in playing not so intense games like Rocket League,Dota 2,StarCraft or Indies but sometimes I will play games like R6,the division or Battlefront.

What GPU do you have?

The FX-8350 is pretty good. Its performance per core may not be as good but it make it up by having double the cores of an i5. Not to mention a higher clock speed. If you want to save money then go with the 8350 and forget about changing MOBO. If you want better performance n general, Get the i5.

If you are going to change, go Intel. I would recommend saving up for a really nice board and a 4690k so you can overclock that. Just find a board that has a reliable brand, decent heat sinks, and a color if that is your thing. That way, you will be able to OC your 4690K and get the most performance out of your premium CPU.

im on the same boat mate. on the 6350 currently and im into 3d animation animation and motion graphics. would the 8350 be a significant boost from where im at? 

my budget i9s more $180 USD max

Well, it's 6 cores, versus 8. So think of it as a  ~30% boost in multicore / rendering performance than the FX 6350.

what is your Cinebench R15 Score? My 4690k got 527 3.5Ghz and 643 on 4.5Ghz. (22% improvement). I agree, the 8350FX would be much better deal if you plan to OC, but I don't see much sense in replacing your board for one that can overclock when you could just save up for an overclockable board with a 4690k.

For gamers, I still can't be that much better. My brother, who has a 6300 and a GTX 960, gets 100% GPU and 70-80% on CPU. And that is with literally no chrome tabs or anything open.
